Obituary

Zetta Marie Beal March 16, 1918-May 17, 2011 Homemaker, Caregiver, Bookkeeper 93 Zetta Shankland Beal, a 44-year resident of California and four-year resident of Twentynine Palms, went to meet the Lord on May 17, 2011. Zetta died peacefully at her residence. Zetta was born March 16, 1918, in Creston, Ohio, to Charles and Delilah Shankland. She married Lloyd Beal, her high school sweetheart, Oct. 18, 1941. After Lloyd returned from service to his country during World War II, they made their home in Canton, Ohio. Several years later their daughter, Diana, entered their lives. Several years following, Zetta's mother, Delilah, joined the family. Zetta, a dedicated Christian, worked tirelessly at 11th Church of God, worked part-time as a bookkeeper for several small businesses, and cared for her mother and family. In 1967, Lloyd's job necessitated a family move to Santa Ana. After 16 years of caring for her elderly mother, a decision had to be made to place her into another family member's care and ultimately into a nursing facility. Zetta, Lloyd and Diana attended Garden Grove Church of God for several years before making the Crystal Cathedral their church home. Zetta's commitment to her Lord continued at the Crystal Cathedral. She again served tirelessly in a number of various areas at the church. She and Lloyd enjoyed traveling and visiting with family and friends for many years, before Lloyd's death in 1985. In 1988, a new "love of her life," Lisa, arrived at LAX, where her daughter was able to introduce her to her new granddaughter after arriving from India. She then enjoyed establishing many memories traveling with her and Diana to many locations around the United States. Just spending time with Lisa was a joy for her. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Orpha and brothers Steve, Lloyd and Roy. She is survived by daughter Diana and granddaughter Lisa of Yucca Valley; niece Pat Kaufman of Sun City; grandnieces Kim Kaufman, Chris Austin and her husband, Mark, and their sons, Justin and Andrew, all of Glendale, Ariz. Many holidays and birthdays were spent with the Kaufman and Austin families. She also is survived by her only remaining sibling, Clayton Shankland, and his wife, Merle, of Sun City, Ariz., and their two children, Dennis and Karen. She is also survived by many, many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins all across the country. Zetta's Celebration of Light and Life will be at noon May 28 at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, with viewing prior to the service. She will be interred next to her beloved husband at Fairhaven Memorial Cemetery in Santa Ana. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the American Alzheimer's Association.
