Yong Nan Ernst, 64, passed away August 3 at the Canyon Vista Medical Center in Sierra Vista, Arizona. Yong was born January 23, 1951 in Seoul, Korea. She was the fourth of six children born to her Mother, Yi Young Hui and her Father, Choe Hae Su. Yong married Charles John Ernst, a U.S. Army Civilian on December 7, 1977 in Seoul, Korea. She came to the United States for the first time in May, 1979 and settled with Charles and their infant son, Charlie in Bellevue, Washington. Yong was sworn in as a United States Citizen in Seattle, Washington on September 18, 1981. She then returned overseas with Charles and Charlie in November, 1981 and spent the next seven and one half years (evenly split) in Saudia Arabia then Korea. In May, 1989, Yong returned to the United States with her Family and settled in Sierra Vista when Charles took a position at Fort Huachuca. Yong thoroughly enjoyed singing in the Choirs at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church and ST Andrews the Apostle Catholic Church. Yong is survived by her Husband, Charles John Ernst of Sierra Vista; Son, Charles David Ernst (Joanna) of Bakersfield, California; Grandson David Tyler Ernst of Bakersfield, California; Mother In-Law Helen Ernst of Menlo Park, California; Sister-in-Law Victoria Stark (Brad) of Porterville, California; Sisters Choe, Yong-Cha and Choe, Yong-Suk of Seoul, Korea; Brother Choe In-Sik of Gaithersburg, Maryland; Sister Kim Yong OK of Sierra Vista, Arizona. Another Brother Choe Yong Sik of Seoul, Korea passed away in 1990. Yong is also survived by many Nieces and Nephews as well as Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews. Yong also used the Catholic Name "Margarita" and some people knew her by that name only. A Funeral Mass was held at Noon, Saturday, August 8 at ST. Andrews the Apostle Catholic Church with Father Greg Adolf presiding. Prior to the Mass, there was a viewing at 10:30 in the Church followed by praying the Rosary at 11:30 am. A Prayer service will be held at Noon, Saturday, August 15 at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter with Father Raul Sanchez Flores of St. John's Church, Wasco followed by interment at Shafter Memorial Park.
