Obituary

Graveside service will be held at 1pm at Carpinteria Cemetery for Willie Swaffar who went to be with Jesus on January 9, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Willie, born on August 31, 1918 in Comanche, Oklahoma was the seventh and final survivor of eight children born to Rosie Mae and Delmar Cates. She married Jesse W. Swaffar on July 26, 1940. After Jesse's service in the U.S. Army during WWII, the couple moved to Carpinteria, CA where they lived for most of their married life. Their only daughter, Linda, was born there. After Jesse's death in 1990 just short of their 50th wedding anniversary, Willie moved to McFarland, CA to be closer to her family. Willie was a very private lady who took great pride in her home, her appearance, and her family. Holidays and birthdays were never overlooked by Willie. She enjoyed decorating and celebrating as often as possible. She loved to cook, to visit with friends and to shop. She loved her Lord, Jesus Christ, and spent many hours reading her Bible and praying for her family and friends. Willie is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dale Shimer; grandsons, Matthew (Mitch)Shimer, Galen (Carol) Shimer, and Andrew Shimer; three great grandchildren, Kara, Bryce, and Emily; and numerous nieces and nephews. Our immense gratitude goes to Delano Regional Medical Center, Delano District Skilled Nursing Facility, and Hoffman Hospice. Their care and support for Mom and the family will forever be remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Hoffman Hospice or favorite charities.
