William (Bill) was born in Miami, Oklahoma to John and Florence (Sage) Ready. At age two Bill's family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where he would later graduate from the University of Missouri. After graduation he served 4 ½ years in the U.S Navy during World War II attaining the rank of a Lieutenant Commander. After the war Bill started a new life managing several branches of Abbey Rents throughout the country for 22 years. In 1958 he transferred to the California area, and to Bakersfield in 1971. In Bakersfield Bill opened up Cay Health Foods on 18th street and operated the store until his retirement in 1984. Bill was a member of many organizations: Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Country Club/Masonic Lodge of Kansas City, Missouri, and the First Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield. He was a past member of Kansas City, Missouri Rotary Club, Kern Kiwanis Club and Sons in Retirement Branch #178. Bill is preceded in death by his wife Virginia L. Ready who passed in 1990, son Wm S. Ready Jr. in 1976, his Sister Mary Kathryn Ross in 1987 and his brother John T. Ready, Jr. in 2006. He is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Himes of Fountain Valley, Ca, and Patricia Gerbing and her husband John of Canyon Country, Ca; three loving grandchildren, Julianne Parrigo, Robert Gerbing, and Kimberly Gerbing; his great-grandchildren Taylor Marie Perrigo, Katherine Mei Gerbing and another one on the way. A memorial service for William Ready will be held at The First Presbyterian Church on Saturday October 6, 2007 at 2:00pm. A reception will follow at Glenwood Gardens at 3:30 pm.
