Born on January 1, 1931 in Bakersfield, California, William was raised in the Shafter and Wasco areas, graduating from Wasco Union High School before enlisting in the United States Army. While serving in the Army he was stationed in Korea during the war. William was honorably discharged from the Army in September of 1954, but was not yet done serving his country. That same year he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for more than twenty-one years before retiring. In 1955 William married Thelma Hosman and they began their lives as a military family. During his military career William traveled all over the United States with Thelma and their sons along for the ride, even living in Madrid, Spain for a time. They eventually landed in Oklahoma where William retired from the Air Force before returning to Kern County to settle. Although William's professional life was dedicated to the military, his passion was for music. William learned early how to play guitar and as an adult he played and sang in bands. His favorite past time was to play and sing with his dear friend and brother-in-law Don, creating many joyful memories for all of his family. William is survived by his three sons Bill (and wife Rena), Joel (and wife Tessa), Jon (and wife Karen); brothers Bobby, Buddy (and wife Susie), Harold (and wife Pat), and sister Paula. He is also survived by many loving Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews. William was predeceased by his parents, William Sr. and Tracy, sisters June and Betty; and his wife of 35 years, Thelma. Graveside Services will be held Friday, August 29th, at 10:00am at the Shafter Cemetery.
