A graveside service for William "Bill" Lewis Smith, 68, of Bakersfield, is scheduled for Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 9am at Shafter Memorial Park. Bill passed away July 3, 2008 in Bakersfield. Bill was born June 6, 1940 in Middletown, Ohio, and he moved to Kern County when he was 9 years old. On November 17, 1984 he married Barbara in Pismo Beach. Bill was a diesel mechanic for 45 years, mostly working on his own. He enjoyed being outdoors, with hobbies like hunting, shooting, fishing, and spending time in the high country. He was also a fan of Nascar and country and western music. Spending time with the guys was also a favorite pastime of his, and could be found every morning having coffee at Crosby's Market. Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Ronnie and wife, Cheryl Smith, David and wife, Roberta Smith, Jami Greer; step-children, Kimberly Whitmore, John and wife, Melinda Whitmore, Jesse and wife, Elise Whitmore; grandchildren, Dustin, Torrie, Cassandra, Monica, Sabrina, Kristina, Ryan, Brittney, and Jackson; as well as 6 great-grandchildren.
