Visitation for Wanda Word will be at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, CA on Wednesday, July 23, from 9am to 11am. Graveside services will follow at Shafter Memorial Park on Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 11am. Mom was born on August 9, 1920 to J.J and Loney (Dennis) Rogers in Ardell, Texas. She passed peacefully at home on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the age of 87. Wanda was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 65 years, Grady in 2002. She is also preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister. She is survived by her two brothers, Murle and Jim Rogers of Texas, her sister Patty and Leonard Kershvinck of Arizona; son Jerry and Elizabeth Word of Nipomo, CA; daughter, Mary and Tom Hulsey of Bakersfield, CA; six grandchildren, Rebecca Humphrey, Renee and Brad Benton, Melissa Kelly, Cyndee Schmeiser, Karen and Terry Evans, and Jeffrey Hulsey; 11 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren ; her beloved Aunt Martha and Uncle Tom; nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and bother-in-law. Mom obeyed the gospel and was baptized in 1948. She and Dad served the Lord faithfully, attending the Riverview Church of Christ for as long as their health permitted. Our hearts are broken to lose her but are comforted that she has been welcomed home by the Lord and her loved ones.
