Obituary

Walter was born in Dinuba, CA on August 31, 1917. His parents were Louisa and S.D. Hahn. The parents moved their family to Delano in the latter part of 1920 where they purchased their first piece of land began farming and raised their family. Walter attended Columbine Elementary School, graduated from Delano High at the age of 17 and enrolled in a community college in Los Angeles to study diesel engines. Returned to Delano married, farmed with his father and later with his brother, Luther, until Hahn Farms were sold in 1962. Walt moved to Visalia and was employed as a truck driver for Sequoia Rock co. until he retired in 1982. Walt loved all sports and played varsity football in high school under Coach Ray Frederich who named Walt as being one of the greatest players during his 24 years of coaching. As an adult, he enjoyed flying, fishing, hunting bowling horseback riding and golf. He served with Bill Parelli-Minetti as a member of Delano Saddle Club and rode in festival parades throughout the Valley, especially in Kern County. Walter was a member of the first Board of Directors for Wasco Valley Rose Golf Course and was a member of Shafter-Wasco Elks as well as the Coyotes. Three brothers, Arthur, James and Luther preceded Walt in death. He attended St. Mark's Church in Shafter and is survived by Jane, his wife of 27 years, two sisters Louise Park, Esther Watson, her husband, Keith; a brother William Hahn and his wife, Eunice; three daughters, Joan Okura; Patricia Durgan and her husband, Albert and Cheryl Fisher; Stepdaughters, Marilynn Johnson, husband Michael; Barbara Fitzgerald, husband Patrick and stepson, James Hahn. Grandchildren are Louise and Terry, Troxell; Brock Okura, Chris Neill, Julie Fuzi, Stephen Gerich, Paul Lambert, David, Rebecca and Megan Hahn. Great grandchildren are Joel and Sarah Troxell, Krysta Neill, Kylie and Tommy Munds, and Jackson David Hahn. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's Church, 295 Beech ave. Shafter, CA 93263 on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may made in memory of Walter to St. Marks Church at the above address or Shafter-Wasco Elks Lodge #2419 16694 Dresser Avenue Wasco, CA 93280
