Vonzil "Vonnie" Boyd was born in Texas on July 12, 1931 to parents, William and Irene West. She married the one and only love of her life, Billy Boyd, on April 26, 1947 in Arkansas. Vonzil was an immaculate homemaker; she was meticulous in the caring of her husband, her children, her home, and even her yard. Vonzil enjoyed spending time in her garden, and often shared the fruits and vegetables that had been grown there with her family, church family, and friends. Vonzil was a longtime member of the Wasco Free Will Baptist Church, 25 years to be exact, and many of the family activities revolved around the church community. She was a caring and compassionate woman, she was often moved to help animals that she came across; even if it only meant temporarily feeding and caring for an abandoned pet, she did not like to see any animal in need. Vonzil loved to show off her toy poodle, "Pumpkin" who brought her much love and joy. Her favorite things to do included: spending time with family, making quilts as gifts, cooking for the holidays, traveling, and eating out while shopping in Bakersfield. She will be dearly missed by her husband, her children, her family members, and friends. Vonzil was preceded in death by her parents, William and Irene West; and her brother, Cecil West. She is survived by her husband of 68 years and 11 months, Billy Boyd; her children, Pam and husband Danny Scott of Wasco, Reyne Smith of Bakersfield, Billy Boyd and fiancé Barbara Coats of Shafter, and Steven Boyd and wife Michelle of Caldwell, TX; her only surviving sidling, her brother, Bennie West and wife Sally of Pahrump, NV; as well as 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Vonzil passed on March 19, 2016 in Bakersfield. A graveside service was conducted by Peters Funeral Home on March 25, 2016 at Shafter Memorial Park. Services began at 10am and Pastor Danny Scott of the Wasco Free Will Baptist Church officiated.
