Maxine was born in Indianola, OK August 17, 1934 to Cleve and Mattie Fink. One of 11 children, she had 8 sisters and 2 brothers. Maxine passed away Monday evening December 12th in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family. In the 1940's, she moved to California and then eventually settled in Shafter. She went to Shafter High and at the age of 15 she met the love of her life Kenneth Barker. The two were married June 23, 1951. They loved each other and were happily married for 65 years. In Bakersfield she and Kenny raised their 3 children Michael Barker (Kary), Denise Krikorian (Jeff), and Roger Barker (Kim). Maxine worked at Pacific Telephone Company for some time while raising her children. She was a loving and caring mother who participated in the PTA, Scouts as a Den Mom and North High Booster Club. She is survived by her husband Kenneth, her sister Margaret Mello, her 3 children, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was lovingly known as Nana to not only her grandchildren but to anyone who needed a Nana in their life. Nana was classy and always dressed to impress. She was both loving and sassy. You could always count on her feeding you well, visiting for hours and sending you home with goodies. Nana will be greatly missed. Service will be held December 28th at 12:30pm at Bakersfield National Cemetery, 30338 East Bear Mountain Blvd Arvin, CA 93203. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hoffman Hospice.
