Vicenta Hernandez passed away quietly in her home in Lamont, CA, surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, February 1, 2011, at the age of 95. She was born on April 5, 1915 in San Lucas de Ocampo, Durango, Mexico to Gertrudis Gonsalez Hernandez and Pablo Hernandez. Vicenta enjoyed spending time cooking, gardening, singing and playing with grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a loving caregiver to her family and a devout Catholic. She is survived by her son Jose Victor Manuel Hernandez Gonsalez; daughters Maria Torres De La O and her husband Ernesto, Juliana Hernandez Villarreal and her husband Pedro; sister Cecilia Banda; 14 grand children and 32 great-grand children, a large extended family and numerous friends. Vicenta Hernandez is preceded in death by husband Leon Acosta; brother Isaias Hernandez and sister Maria Del Refugio Garcia. Vicenta Hernandez is much loved and will forever remain in our hearts. 11:00 am Mass of the Resurrection, officiated by Father John Schmoll, will be held Monday, February 7, 2011 for Vicenta Hernandez, of Lamont, with interment immediately following at South Kern Cemetery District. Visitation is on Sunday, February 6, 2011 from 2 to 6:30pm at the Arvin Funeral Home, the Holy Rosary will be recited at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lamont at 7:15 pm.
