(Mom, Granny, Granny Great and Aunt Bug) Devoted to her God and her family, Mom loved to teach Sunday School, especially when she had a class of little ones. She read her Bible and said her prayers every day. Her Faith was real. Mom was known for her optimistic outlook, ability to teach and inspire her gentleness and especially for her sweetness of spirit. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her. Verona was born in Alma Ark. on October 25, 1917 to Jesse and Mary Bates Young. She married Ellis Broyles Jan 1, 1935 and in 1936 came to Arvin California with her husband Ellis and worked in the packing sheds at DiGiorgio. Their marriage lasted for over 60 years, until the passing of Ellis in 1995 and it produced two children Tony and Lynda. Verona worked in the vineyards in Arvin and later worked for many years at the Vineland School District as Cafeteria Supervisor. They moved to Mecca Calif. in 1965 to farm the Sea Vista Ranch and Verona became the Cafeteria Supervisor at the Mecca School District. Upon their retirement in 1976 moved to Alma and stayed until 1983 when they returned to Arvin to be close to Verona's family. Verona was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Mary, husband Ellis, brothers Clifford, Gerald, Othar, Wilburn and sister Myrle. She is survived by brother Bob, son Tony and wife Kay Broyles, daughter Lynda and husband Gary Young ,five Grandchildren Stephen, Jeannie, Alyssa, Ami and Joel, Seventeen Great Grandchildren and Three Great-Great Grandchildren. Verona also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends to mourn her passing. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hallmark Assisted Living, Hoffman Hospice, Dennis and Rena Conradi for their loving and compassionate care . Visitation will be Monday Aug 17, 2009 from 4-8 PM at Arvin Funeral home, 600 Tucker St. Arvin. Graveside Service will be held at Arvin Cemetery on Tuesday August 18, 2009 - 1:00PM.
