Long time Shafter resident, Bernelle Wells Carlton was called home by her Lord and Savior on January 27, 2024. She was 97 years old. Bernelle was born on December 16, 1926 in Alexander, Arkansas to James and Ethel Thompson. She was the sixth of eleven children.

Bernelle is survived by her four children, Betty (Gene) White, Larry Wells, Russell (Mary) Wells and Andrea (Martin ) Affentranger, eleven grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. Ted Thompson is her one surviving sibling. She is preceded in death by two husbands, JC Wells and Charlie Carlton and many other family members.

Bernelle was active in the Shafter community and a kind and caring person who touched the lives of the many who knew her. A devoted Christian first, and a loving wife and mother, and grandmother.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 17, 2024, 1:00 PM at First Southern Baptist Church, 250 Kern Street, Shafter, California. Interment will follow the service at Shafter Memorial Park. Peters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
