Obituary

Vera Jenette Zarzana (Church) 1936-2016 Vera lost her struggle with Alzheimer's on April 29th, 2016. Born on July 4th, 1936 to John and Agnus Church, Vera used to say that she was so special because the whole nation celebrated her birthday! Vera is survived by her twin daughters Dena Fiad and Dana (Gary) Crawford. Grandchildren Dustin (Holly) Paul, Jeremy Smith, Molly Smith, and Emily Smith. Great Grandchildren Trystin Smith, Jacob Paul, and John Woodard IV and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Surviving siblings are Eddy Church and Shirley (Bill) Sullivan. Vera will meet the rest of her family in heaven; Mother Agnes, Father John, siblings Jay (Nita) Church, Charles (Donna) Church, David (Maxine) Church, and Gerald Church. Vera kept her faith in the Lord her whole life and was a long time member of Bakersfield First Assembly of God where she raised her girls. She was the church hostess for many years and celebrated many weddings in the church, helping with the receptions. Vera loved Arvin and Bakersfield where she lived most of her life. She attended BC prior to her marrying and becoming a wife and mother. She was active in the community she loved by always participating in the Christmas and Veterans parades every year. She was an active member of the Bakersfield Women's Club and cooked meals each week for the Oildale Lions Club. After her girls were older she worked for Freemont Investment & Loan until retiring. She also worked each year with H&R Block during tax season. Mom loved spending as much time as she could with her grandkids, always doing crazy things with them. She loved to camp, and pick wildflowers and pinecones that she had all over her house along with her teapots. Our Momma was loved by so many and will be greatly missed. The family would like to express our gratitude to Golden Living Shafter for the care they provided our Mother for so many years.
