Velma Lee was born in Whitewright, Texas to Jess and Hazel Norris, on November 8, 1919. She married J. B. "Bo" Henderson on June 30, 1930, and the couple came to Shafter in 1947. Velma was a Shafter P.D. Dispatcher for years and could share many stories with family and friends. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Shafter. Velma Lee "Toots" was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. in May, 1982. She is survived by her brother, Billy Joe and wife, Jean Norris of Garland, Texas; sister, Oleta Wilson and husband, Ray of Albuquerque, NM; special friends, Riley Ashby and wife, Faye and Doyle and wife, JoNell Stearman; 4 nieces and 1 nephew and their families. A graveside funeral service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home was held at Shafter Memorial Park on Thursday, June 28th, 2007, at 10am, for Velma Lee Henderson, age 87, of Shafter, who passed away June 25, 2007, in Bakersfield. Pastor Gayland Allen of North Heights Baptist Church of Bakersfield officiated the service. A visitation was be held at Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, from 2pm to 8pm.
