Valarie was born September 30, 1986 in Bakersfield to Jimmy and Deeana Fain. She attended Richland Elementary and Junior High and graduated Shafter High Class of 2004. Valarie was very active while attending Shafter High. She was the Bible Club President as well as ASB President her senior year. She was a representative for Girls State during her junior year, Student Representative to City Council, on the Mock Trial Team; and Shafter Junior Miss 3rd runner up. Valarie was also on the tennis team and played in the school band. Valarie wrote a weekly opinion article for the Shafter Press known as the Fain Factor. She was also very involved in youth groups at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, Wasco Family Fellowship, and Valley Bible Church; taking trips to Mexico and Utah for youth ministry. After graduating Shafter High she went to Los Angeles and attended Biola University where she met Lance Blake. They were on their way home to make wedding plans for a September 9, 2007 ceremony. She also worked with the handicapped during the summer while at college. Valarie had been living in Albuquerque, NM for the last year. She had been working for AOL as a customer service representative, as well as in the healthcare industry. Valarie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jim Runkles and Walter Cochran and Delbert and Beulah Fain and great grandma, Mae Chatman. She is survived by her grandmother, Syble Runkles Thompson of Shafter; parents, Jim and Deeana Fain; brother, William Fain; sister, Amy Fain; 3 nephews, Cameron, Kaden and Tyler Downing all of Wasco. She also leaves a host of other loving family members and friends. A funeral service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church, 400 Kern St. on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at 10am, for Valarie Suzette Fain, age 20, of Albuquerque, NM, who passed away July 27, 2007. Pastor Linda Taylor of the Home Fellowship Church and Pastor Brian Moran of Westside Family Fellowship will officiate the service and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. A visitation will be held at Peters Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 1, 2007 from 2 to 8 pm.
