Tino M. Torres, born on February 15, 1924, in Winslow, Arizona, passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2008. He was 84 years old. He served proudly in the U. S. Marine Corp as a radio communications specialist and fought in the Battle of Midway during WWII. He worked at various jobs until he began his career with the California Highway Patrol as a Radio Dispatcher in 1949 and retired in 1984. He will be remembered for his being cheerful, helpful and friendly to others. He was also very supportive of his children and adamant that they attain a college education. He enjoyed traveling with family to various states, camping, white water rafting at Jackson Hole, Wyoming, taking a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon, seeing the Arizona lava desert and Seattle Needle Point, Catalina Island cruises, short trips to Pismo Beach, Lake Lopez, and Shark Tooth Mountain. He treasured family gatherings and luncheons with his CHP friends. Tino was predeceased by his parents, Jesus and Sabina Torres, brother, Frank Torres, and sisters, Mercy Montoya and Jennie Moreno. He is survived by his wife Alice of 35 years, daughters, Rosalie Rocha and husband Paul, Carmen Rubi, Felicia Soto and husband Daniel; sons, Paul Torres and wife Gloria, Louie Torres and wife, Diana, Frank Feliz and wife, Naomi; grandchildren Lucinda Soto, Angel Soto, Maria Rivera, Lauren Rubi, Cindy Minner, Marina Kennelty, Mark Torres, Bobby Rocha, Frankie Feliz, and Jeremiah Feliz; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Rivera and Madeline Kennelty; numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Mark Torres, Bobby Rocha, Frank Montoya, Greg Montoya, George Montoya, and Ron Montoya. Visitation begins Wednesday, October 8, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Hopson Mortuary, 620 Oregon Street. Rosary and Mass of the Christian Burial will be at St. Francis Church, 900 H St., on Thursday, October 9, at 10:00 a.m. Internment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Rd
