Sonny was born in Coweta, OK in 1932 to Euell and Leatha Mahan. He moved to Shafter in 1940 with his family. Sonny served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged as corporal in 1954 He married the love of his life, Carol Fox in 1955. They lived in Shafter until 1990, when they moved to Springville, CA. Sonny was a wonderful man, a joy to be around. He loved playing jokes on his family and friends. Sonny was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents Euell and Leatha Mahan, wife, Carol; brothers, Herman and Billy Mahan; sisters, Christine Quinn, Ima Ruth Flud and Wanda Cronian. He is survived by his daughter Liz Mahan, son Thurman Mahan and wife Julie; four grandchildren, Anthony, Ryan and Conner Mahan, Dana and husband David Towse; great-granddaughter, Bailey Towse; sisters, Goldie and husband Charles Henly, Beverly and husband Don Weaver, Norma and husband Rick Smith; brothers, Wayne Mahan and Leon and Betty Mahan; numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside Services were held for Thurman "Sonny" Mahan, age 76, who died on December 31 at Shafter Memorial Park, under the direction of Peters Funeral Home.
