Sylvia Lee, a 40-year resident of California and 10-year resident of the Morongo Basin, died March 15, 2009, at Hi-Desert Medical Center. She was 69 years old. The daughter of Harvey Lee and Thelma Sommerset Lee, she was born July 5, 1939, in Wilmington, N.C. She is survived by son Charles Allen of Gulfport, Miss.; daughters Cheryl Allen of Joshua Tree and Angela Shelley of Yucca Valley; grandchildren Krista and Lydia Allen of Sacramento, Bryanna, Shavaughn, Gene and Gabriella Evaro of Joshua Tree and Robert Shelley of Lake Elsinore; and sister Julia Cendejas of Redlands. She was preceded in death by son Pi Allen, husband Gene Allen, sisters Toni Lee and Joanne Pennington, mother and father Thelma and Harvey Lee and granddaughter Natalie Evaro. Mrs. Lee was an associate at Wal-Mart for 10 years. A service will be held 1 to 2 p.m. March 23 at Joshua Tree Memorial Park, 60121 Twentynine Palms Highway. Steve Cook of The Way Station will officiate. In lieu of flowers, her family requests memorial donations be sent to The Way Station.
