Susan was born June 21, 1964 in Michigan, to David and Marjorie Baker. After graduating with a degree in psychology from Central Michigan University, she eagerly gave up the cold Michigan winters when she was offered a job on the California coast. Susan married John Neufeld in 1992, and they had more than 22 beautiful years together. Upon moving to Shafter, Susan was employed by Kern Regional Center, and has continued to work with her special clients for more than 20 years. But Susan, "everybody's Mom and best friend," was first and foremost a mother and best friend to her beloved daughter Katy. She was so proud to see Katy become a strong, confident adult. Recently, despite her own illness, Susan devoted herself to caring for John during his battle with cancer. She was an encourager to many friends and family members, on Facebook and in person, keeping a smile even when her heart was breaking. She loved the beach, and her morning coffee; singing, and working to create awareness for kids with autism; her home, her pets, her family, her church family, and her Lord. She will be greatly missed. Susan joined her beloved husband John and son David, and her father David C. Baker in glory, where she will be waiting to greet the loved ones she left behind: her daughter, Katy Garcia and husband Marco, her mother, Marjorie York and husband Rodney, her brother Ken Baker, sister Sally Baker, sister Linda Joyner and husband Robert, and her stepmother Linda Eck Baker, along with many other friends and family members. Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 13, at 4 pm at Valley Bible Church, 350 Pine Street, Shafter.
