Obituary

Spencer Billy Stallings was born March 24,1923 to Eddie and Minnie Stallings. He was the seventh of eight children, growing up on a farm in Lenoir, NC. He served in the army in WWII as a German prisoner of war guard in Shafter, California, where he met and married Esther Grumbles, settling in Bakersfield. They were married for 65 years, having three children, Bill (Judy), Linda (Carroll) and Judy (Rick). They were members of Shafter Church of Christ where Spencer served as a deacon for many years. Spencer worked for Superior Oil for 38 years. He loved talking about his days on the oil lease and his military service; he was known for his stories of days gone by! After retiring, Spence and Esther enjoyed traveling with the Shafter Trailer Club; many good times and good friends. Esther preceded Spencer in death in 2011. Spencer passed away peacefully May 20, 2019 at the age of 96. He will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a man of honor and faith and lived it daily. We are thankful for his example and for him truly, "to live is Christ, to die is gain". The family thanks Pacifica Senior Living and Hoffman Hospice for the loving care they gave our Dad.
