Sonja Lynne (Rodocker) Dunlap was born in Bakersfield, Ca on August 14, 1958 to parents Jack Wilbur Rodocker and Lola Dee (McGill) Rodocker. Sonja met Jay in 1973 and were married 1 year later on August 24, 1974. Together they raised three children: Jay, Michael, and Joshua. Sonja was described by many as selfless and a ray of sunshine. Her nickname was Sunny because she was known to brighten up the world wherever she went. Sonja was a one of a kind person who enjoyed collecting bells, taking baths, cuddling, playing bunco, and eating dinners with her family on Saturdays. She took pride in tending her garden and growing fragrant roses. She loved all animals, but had a special love for her dogs. Sonja was the go to person when any one needed her. She will be missed and is loved by all who knew her. Sonja is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jay Dennis Dunlap; father, Jack Wilbur Rodocker; sons, Jay Dennis Dunlap Jr. (Sharon), Michael Scott Dunlap (Alaya), Joshua James Dunlap; grandchildren, Jayme Sloan Dunlap, Hudson Timothy Dunlap, Skyler Nicole Dunlap, Asher Scott Dunlap, Ember Leigh Dunlap; sister, Jacqueline Kay Asbury; nieces, Kristen Haslam, Leann Gonzalez, Jessica Guillen; nephews, Austen Asbury, Raymond Mugle; sister- in- laws, Barbara Adams, Joy Bruce; extended sons, Brian Franz, Steve Sims; 9 grand nieces and nephews and 1 great grandniece; many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her mother, Lola Dee Rodocker and granddaughter Sloan Brielle Dunlap. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 10, 2017 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park. viewings will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2017 from 4-8pm and Thursday, March 9, 2017 from 4-8pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter, California.
