Obituary

Visitation is scheduled Tuesday, October 10, 2006, from 2-8 PM at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary in Lamont. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be said Tuesday, October 10, 2006, 7 PM, at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary. Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, October 11, 2006, 10 AM, at St. Augustine's church. Father John Schmoll will officiate with interment immediately following at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Simon was born on Sept. 10, 1918 in Matamoros, Tamaolipas, Mexico. He moved to Brownsville, Texas in the 1940's then migrated to San Benito, where he worked and started a family with wife, Trinidad. Simon worked in the kitchen on the Army base during World War II. Soon after, he came to California in 1960 and settled in Lamont with his wife Trinidad and children: Sergio, Beatrize and Arturo. He worked as a farm labor Foreman until 1975. Simon then switched careers to become his own boss. He managed and owned the popular nightclub in Lamont named Checo's Place and the Lamont Club. He retired in 1985. With the extra time on his hands, he loved a good game of pool and enjoyed traveling with his family. Any chance that came his way, he would make trips to Las Vegas or any nearest Casino. Preceding Simon in death are his wife, Trinidad and his brothers, Samuel and Elias Contreras. His survivors are his sons Sergio Contreras and wife Josefina (Rosy), Arturo Contreras and wife Maria and daughter Beatrize Contreras. Two brothers, Ruben and Pedro Contreras. He has 10 wonderful grandchildren, 18 adorable great grandchildren and 6 gorgeous great-great grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers: Sergio Contreras Jr., Jose Gonzalez. Pallbearers: Marco Contreras, Pete Halcon, Adriel Contreras, Roberto Solis. We will miss your great sense of humor and the love you had for us grandchildren. You are forever in our hearts.
