Shirley was born to Samuel and Ila Raye Pelham in Rosedale. She grew up in Wasco, attended schools there and was graduated from Wasco High School in 1952. Shirley married Wayne Wood in 1953 and moved to Cheltenham, England where Wayne was serving in the USAF. In 1955 they returned to California and settled in Shafter where Shirley was employed by Bank of America. After many attacks of Asthma they moved to Bakersfield to be closer to the hospital. After her retirement from Kern County Social Services, Shirley and Wayne moved to Kern City where Shirley loved to work in her garden. Alzheimer's disease began its slow progress on Shirley and finally took her life on July 19, 2012. Shirley is survived by Wayne; son, Daryn (Shelle); daughters, Stacy and Melissa Sealy; four grandchildren; sister, June Pope (Warren); brother, Ronald (Norma); and sisters-in-law, Jeanne Pelham and Marjorie Devine. She was preceded in death by infant son, Terry; her parents; brother, Wendall; and brother-in-law, Everett Devine.
