Obituary

Sergio Contreras was born in San Benito, Texas on October 29, 1943, to Simon and Trinidad Contreras. After enduring a lengthy illness and courageous battle, Sergio has gone home to be with the Lord. Sergio grew up in Brownsville, Texas and in 1961 moved with his family to Lamont, CA. He attended Arvin High School, and would later enlist in the Armed Forces. During Sergio's time of service, he acquired a trait for being a barber and became well known by friends and colleagues. After serving in the Armed Forces, Sergio returned home and later married his longtime love, Josefina, in 1970. Sergio's passion for music, and unique voice landed him in a disc jockey position with KWAC radio. Being inspired by friends and family, Sergio found the desire and confidence to open his own Barber Shop known as Sergio's and D's Barber Shop in Lamont, and would continue to run his business for over 40 years. Sergio will always be loved and remembered for his unique character, sense of humor and being "the master of the grill" at family barbeques. Sergio is preceded in death by his parents, Simon and Trinidad Contreras. He is survived by the love of his life, Josefina (Rosy) Contreras, Son, Sergio Contreras, Jr. and fiancé Jaime Carter, Daughters, Dinorah Gonzalez and husband Jose Gonzalez, Anna Garcia and husband George Garcia, Diane Cervantes and husband Tom Cervantes, and Debbie Contreras, Daughter Milagros Cabrera, Son Sergio (Gordo) Contreras, 17 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, his Brother Arthuro Contreras and Sister Beatriz Contreras. Pallbearers will include Sergio Contreras Jr., Marco Contreras, Jose Gonzalez, George Garcia, Sergio (Gordo) Contreras, and Adam Gutierrez. Those who knew Sergio best knew that he was a dedicated husband, loving father, grandfather and a lifetime friend to many. It is with a humble heart that those closest to Sergio know that he is gone only in body, and never in spirit. Sergio, You are with us always. The Rosary will begin on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary at 8601 Hall Road in Lamont. A Catholic Mass will be held Friday, at 10:00 a.m. on June 27 2008, at Saint Augustine Church located at 10601 Myrtle Avenue in Lamont. Burial will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery on Kern Canyon Road. There will be a gathering of family and friends to be announced following the burial.
