Serafin Alvarez Rios was born on July 15, 1930 in Tangancicuaro, Michoacan, Mexico to Antonio and Agripina (Alvarez) Rios. Serafin came as a Bracero in 1945 first working for the railroads. He began working for Armstrong Nursery in Arizona and was transferred to Wasco in 1967. When Bear Creek bought out Armstrong Serafin continued his work budding roses until his retirement in 1993. Serafin married Audelia Garcia in Mexico in 1949 and she preceded him in death March 25, 2012. Serafin always kept very busy, he was a hard working man, and enjoyed tending his garden and beloved roses. Alicia R. Torres would like to thank her brothers who took care of Serafin A. Rios. Also special thanks to Jessica G. Torres for all her patient and lovely devotion to him. In addition to his wife, Serafin was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Agripina Rios; son, Fernando Rios; sister, Agripina Rios; and brothers, Juan, Eluterio and Luis Rios. He is survived by his sons, Serafin G. Rios, Rogelio G. Rios, Cristobal G. Rios, Antonio G. Rios and Sergio G. Rios; daughters, Rosa Herrera, Maria Asuncion Manzano, Alicia R. Torres and Graciela Ocampo; sister, Antonia Rios; brother, Eduardo Rios; and many loving grandchildren, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Peters Funeral Home at 7pm for Serafin Rios, age 84, of Wasco who passed away on March 20, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his family. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 1pm at St. John's Catholic Church and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park.
