Sarah Linda (Funk) Suderman was born April 26, 1915 in Hillsboro, Kansas to Paul and Eva (Balzer) Funk. She was married to Ezra Suderman and they moved from Kansas to Shafter in 1954. She was a life-long member of the Mennonite Brethren Church and shared her musical talent as church organist, pianist and member of the choir in Hillsboro Kansas and in Shafter. She worked in the library at Richland School in Shafter and worked many years at Stringham's Drug store. She volunteered at Guild House in Bakersfield as a bread-maker for the 1-3-5 Thursday Girls. Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Ezra Suderman in 1982. Sarah is survived by her children, Chuck Suderman of Bakersfield and Mary Fahsbender and husband Ken of Bakersfield; grandchildren Bryan Fahsbender and wife Teresa and their children Haley, Eric and Taylor Fahsbender, Sandra Clerou and husband George and their children John, Steven and Daniel Clerou, Lori Fahsbender and her children Adam Smith and Brian Fahsbender, Rick Suderman and wife Sandy and their children Megan, David and Krista Suderman and Michelle Thompson and husband Russ. The family wishes to thank the staff at Hallmark of Bakersfield for the loving care provided during the past 2 ½ years. Hoffman Hospice also provided perfect care during the final days. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent either to Shafter Mennonite Brethren Youth at PO Box 1538, Shafter, CA 93263 or Guild House Restoration at 1905 18th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301 A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, September 10 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park for Sarah Suderman, age 92, who passed away September 5 in Bakersfield. A memorial service will follow at 11am at Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. Pastor Pat Coyle will officiate the services. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 9, from 2pm – 8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Shafter.
