October 6, 1926 – October 21, 2014
Salome Agnes Nord Funk was born October 6, 1926 to John peter and Tina Nord in Bakersfield, Californian. She died October 21, 2014 in Bakersfield. She attended local schools and graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1944. She married Arnold Funk September 17, 1944. They settled in the Rosedale area where they started the Arnold Funk Trucking Business. She worked side by side with Arnold, frequently helping him load trucks at all hours of the night. Wanting to spend even more time with Arnold, she learned to drive the trucks, too. As a mother, Salome was very involved in her children's' lives. She was PTA president, room mother, Sunday School Teacher, camp counselor, and much more. Salome became a Christian at a young age and was baptized into the Bakersfield Mennonite Brethren Church. After their marriage, Arnold and Salome joined the Rosedale Bible Church, where they were very active members. Salome was an excellent vocalist, and sang frequently in church. In addition, she was a faithful member of the Rosedale Ladies Fellowship. Many people were recipients for her sewing projects. Salome loved to cook and was known as a gracious hostess, always willing to open her home to guests. Later in life, Arnold and Salome traveled extensively with their RV. They also volunteered their time with Mennonite Disaster Relief, rebuilding are destroyed by fires, storms, etc. Salome will be greatly missed by her children, Bob (Karen) Funk, Charlotte (Richard) Kaukani; 8 grandchildren, Troy (Kellie) Kaukani, Wendy (Dave) Queyrel, Alicia (Randy) Ibbetson, Shari Charboneau, Matt (Aimee) Funk, Jeremy (Cammi) Funk, Brian Dodd, Kalena (Jared) Joyner; 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Salome was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, all of her siblings (5 sisters and 2 brothers), and an infant grandson. Salome was always willing to help anyone who asked. In lieu of flowers, please give to Mennonite Disaster Relief or Rosedale Ladies Fellowship in Salome's memory. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 11am at the Rosedale Bible Church, 16000 Rosedale Hwy. 661-589-3305
