Ruth I. Sexton was born October 30, 1927 to Nellie May (Averyt) and Howard Carlton Bryan in NewCastle, Oklahoma. Her family moved to California and she finished her schooling in Shafter, graduating from Shafter High School with the Class of 1945. Ruth married Marvin Sexton in 1949 in Las Vegas. Ruth worked in civil service as a computer technician in Mojave for 30 years and returned to Shafter after retirement. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 2000; she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Jessie Jewel Hearn, Vera Gladden, Martha Briley; brothers, Virgil Bryan and Hubert Bryan. Ruth is survived by her sister, Velma Flick of Texas and a host of nieces and nephews. A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, February 24 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park for Ruth I. Sexton, age 83, of Shafter who passed away February 18 in Bakersfield after a short illness. Vern Kern will officiate the service and interment will follow. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 23 from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
