Ruth Denison, a 58-year resident of California and a 36-year resident of Joshua Tree, died gently at home, surrounded by loved ones, 10 days after suffering a massive stroke. She died Feb. 26, 2015, at the age of 92. The daughter of Hermann and Elisabeth Schaefer, she was born Sept. 29, 1922, in East Prussia (now Germany). She worked as a Buddhist meditation teacher for 43 years before retiring. Her interests included religious philosophy, animal welfare, various ecological and conservation causes, piano, mosaics, exercise and dance. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry. She is survived by thousands of students, worldwide. A viewing will be held at 9 a.m. March 21 at Wiefels Mortuary at 57285 Yucca Trail in Yucca Valley and a memorial service will follow there at 1 p.m. At 3 p.m. an unofficial procession will proceed to a crematorium in Joshua Tree.
