Obituary

Ruth was born in Einlage, Paraguay on December 31, 1955, the 3rd of four girls. The family immigrated to Canada in 1956 settling in Calgary, Alberta. She was raised in a Christian home, the daughter of a Mennonite teacher and minister. She married Greg Bergen in December 20, 1979 eventually settling in Shafter. She was born to teach and received her degree later in life, going on to teach Kindergarten and 3rd Grade at Golden Oak Elementary in Shafter. She was active in church choir and children's programs. She worked full time, loved gardening, cooking, entertaining, and excelled in everything she did. Ruth leaves behind a loving husband, Greg; and three pillars of strength in her children, Jacob and his wife, Kathleen, Emily Kate and Hillary. Also remaining are her father, John Kroeger; sisters, Kaethie (Ruben Friesen), Anne (Gary Wiens), and Mary (Erich Dyck), parents-in-law, Walter and Judy Bergen; brothers-in-law, Stan (Leann Bergen), Phil (Carol Bergen - Burkina Faso), Clint (Carla Bergen); with many nieces and nephews. She also leaves a huge legacy of love for "her boys." She touched the lives of many in her community. Ruth joined her Saviour and her mother Suzanna on September 24, 2007. Be at peace Ruthie. A funeral service conducted by Peters Funeral Home will be held Thursday, September 27, at 3 p.m., at the Shafter Mennonite Brethren Church. Interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
