Obituary

Rujelio "Roy" Moreno was born August 6, 1951 in Sunnyside, WA, to Demetrio and Lina Moreno. He grew up with his eight siblings in Shafter, CA. Rujelio was unable to complete his education past the 8th grade as to help support the family. However, he was a very smart man and great with math. Roy worked as a farm laborer in Los Banos for many years. In 1974, Rujelio's first born child was born, named Rujelio Moreno Jr. Later in 1981, his daughter was born, named after his late grandmother, Juanita. Roy was very proud of his children and in everything they did, he supported them even if he didn't always agree with their choices. In 2004, Roy became a grandpa to Paige, daughter of Juanita. His granddaughter Paige was the highlight of his life. He spoiled her as any grandparent would, even into her teenage years and up to his recent passing. Roy retired in 2013 after years of being in the Agricultural field.

His favorite hobbies included fishing, grilling on the BBQ (no matter what the weather was), watching WWE and boxing. He also enjoyed two late pets, Lola and Scruffy, by giving them treats. He was known for wearing a Stetson cowboy hat, wrangler jeans and black boots. He enjoyed listening to Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr., Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers and George Jones. On Sunday mornings, Roy would be watching sermons, especially on the mornings he was not feeling well to make it to church.

Rujelio's surviving children are his son Roy Moreno Jr. of Madera, CA; daughter Juanita Moreno of Shafter, CA; and granddaughter Paige Longtin of Shafter, CA. His remaining siblings are Pablo Moreno of Bakersfield, CA; Diana Reyna of Shafter, CA; Demetrio Moreno Jr of Bakersfield, CA; Rosemary Moreno of Shafter, CA; and Rebecca Garcia of Shafter, CA. Rujelio passed away on July 14, 2023 in Shafter, CA. Roy was loved deeply by his family and friends. He will be missed dearly and never forgotten. He was not a man of many words, but when he spoke it was because he truly had something to say; wisdom.
