Ruby Smith of Shafter passed away on January 12, 2009 in Bakersfield at the age of 85. She was born February 24, 1923 to Jess and Sarah (Harris)Thompson. Ruby had worked for many years in the shafter area with various farming companies. She was predeceased by her husband Henry Smith, Brother Wesley Thompson and sisters Jessie Eddings and Ines Stout. She is survived by her daughter Virgie Herring of Wasco, Brother Buck Thompson and sisters Bessie McMurtrey of Fresno, Hazel Myatt of Clovis, Lottie Pietroforte of Porterville and Lois Myatt of Clovis. A graveside service was held on January 20 at the Shafter Memorial Park.
