Obituary

Ruby Rogers was born February 5, 1923 in Kinta, Oklahoma one of twelve children born to Alice (Harp) and Jess Franks. She grew up and received her education in various places in Oklahoma. She married Floyd Watkins April 5, 1941. They came to California in 1942 and settled in Wasco in 1943. Floyd preceded her in death in 1960. Ruby married Clarence Rogers December 22, 1962 in Las Vegas and they continued to call Wasco home. Clarence preceded her in death in 1991. Like many of her generation, Ruby worked in the fields and vegetable sheds during harvest seasons. Ruby then began a career as a secretary and bookkeeper working for Case Tractor, McMahon's, Haberfeld Ford, Central Valley Ford, and Carter's Machine Shop. After retirement Ruby kept busy by attending night classes offered by Wasco Adult Education where she learned to use the computer. She took many interesting classes which she enjoyed very much. She also liked to quilt, crochet and sew; work cross word puzzles and cook. Ruby's good ole "Okie" food – beans, potatoes, corn bread, fried okra and cabbage – were family favorites. She cherished her time spent with family. Beginning in the early 1940's, Ruby was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Church of God at Poso and Adams for over 50 years and served as church secretary for many years. When the church closed, she began attending the Full Gospel Truth Church and also shared her talents as secretary. Ruby was preceded in death by her husbands, Floyd Watkins and Clarence Rogers; daughter, Robbie Jewel; parents, Alice and Jess Franks; siblings, Opal Evans, Betty Morris, Claudia Baird, Billy Joe Franks, Jimmy D. Franks, Veda Davis and Evelyn Franks. She is survived by her son, Floyd Jesse Watkins and wife Gail of Bakersfield and daughter, Bobbie Worthy of Shafter; step-daughter, Norma Holdener and husband Tony, step-son, Clarence Leroy Rogers, all of Bakersfield and step-son, Tommy Rogers; brother, Don Franks; sisters, Madge Gentry and husband Lewis, Mildred Scott and Ella Marie Marcum, all of Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Clarence Evans Sr., of Shafter; grandchildren, Deana Gann, Jerry Worthy, Gilbert Reyna and Rachel Rozelle; step-grandchildren, Jaime Rogers, Steven Rogers, Sandy Rogers, Andrea Rogers and Lise Carter and husband John; great grandchildren, Nicole Gann, Nick Gann, Jr. and wife Erin and Jordan Rozelle; step-great grandchildren, Brier Rogers and Ella Carter; and great great grandchildren, Robert, Justin, Angelia and Jessie; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home, Wasco on Monday, August 19 at 10am at Shafter Memorial Park for Ruby Rogers, age 90, of Wasco who passed away August 15, 2013 at her home in Wasco.
