IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruby Faye
Mooney
July 23, 1934 – January 27, 2021
Ruby Faye Mooney was born on July 23, 1934, in Lula, OK, to Ted and Verona (Brooks) Nickell. At the age of 86, she passed peacefully in her sleep in Bakersfield, CA at 11:59 p.m. on her Mother's birthday, January 27, 2021. Ruby truly believed that families are a gift from God to cherish forever. She is survived by her daughters Terry and Debra (Manuel); her grandchildren Dimitri A., Dominic (Elena), and Harold Lee (Elizabeth), along with her great-grandchildren Dillon, Isabella, Jayden, Peyton, Drake, Santiago, Emmanuel, Eevee, and Juniper Sage, as well as many generations of cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred, parents Ted and Verona, her son Michael, three sisters Louise, Lola, Lily Fern, and one brother Teddy Brent. Then, amazingly and within hours on January 28, 2021, Ruby was followed in death by her last remaining sibling Ruth Christine. Sadly, this marks the end of their generation. Ruby's early years were in Oklahoma, before her family migrated to California in the 1940's. After graduating from Lemoore High School in 1952, she had a short adventure in Alaska before returning to California to meet and marry her late husband Alfred in 1955. In 1959 they settled in Coalinga, CA, where she was known as a hard worker, excellent housekeeper and to dearly love her family, especially her grandchildren. She never focused on the negative, and a look of worry never stayed on her face for long. She was always able to share a genuine smile with her loved ones and friends. In our little town, Ruby was also known to drive somewhere like to work or the store and would proceed to walk home because she forgot she drove. She often said she wasn't meant to drive and had even gotten pulled over at least once for driving too slowly down the street. She had many treasured collections, from works of art made from mud (with hidden secrets) by her beloved grandsons, Louis L'Amour books, old cologne bottles shaped like cars and trucks, rocks…big and small. Oh, let's not forget all those 86 years of cards, letters, and pictures. Still today, Ruby has beautiful red hair and blue eyes. Although as a child the school yard bullies would tease her for her red hair…but, as in life and now in death, her little sister Christine stepped up to defend her against the bullies. Peace be with you Ruby Faye and your little sister Ruth Christine, as you go together, spiritually holding hands, to join your family circle in the sky. Thank you for all that you've done…and all that you are! And go knowing that we knew that we were loved, as much as we loved you!
