Ruby (Frantz) Hughes was born December 22, 1913 in Durham Kansas to John J. and Della (Ratzliff) Frantz. When she was six years old the family moved to Wasco and then to the Farm on Griffith in 1921. Ruby attended Wasco elementary schools and graduated with the Wasco Union High School Class of 1933, the first class to use the newly built auditorium. Ruby married Thomas R. Hughes August 16, 1941 and they continued to make Wasco their home. Ruby enjoyed making scrapbooks and when her nieces and nephews were young reading to them. In 2005 she was grateful to have cataract surgery, which restored her eyesight so she could read small print again. Ruby was a member of the Wasco First Assembly of God Church. Ruby is survived by her sisters, Zelma Story of Paso Robles and Leta Mae Waldrip of Wasco; and many loving nieces and nephews. Her husband Thomas who passed away in 1982; her parents; 3 brothers, Harvey, Herbert and Samuel; nephew, Larry Frantz and niece, Joanne Aldridge, preceded her in death. A graveside service under the direction of Peters Funeral Home will be held Wednesday, April 30, at 11am at Wasco Memorial Park for Ruby Hughes, age 94, who passed away April 26, in Shafter. Pastors Wayne Thomas and Guy Drummond will officiate and interment will follow. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 29 from 2pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
