IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruby Irene
Francis
September 10, 1916 – August 22, 2009
Ruby Irene Francis was born September 10, 1916, in Noble, OK, and passed away at home in San Jose, CA, on Saturday, August 22, 2009, with her loving family close by. Ruby was dearly loved by her sons and wives Ron and Jeanette, Gary and Nancy, sister, Vesta Ellis, brother-in-law and wife, Leonard and Mary Francis, and many nieces, nephews and cousins, especially, Corinne Lambert, who wrote wonderful letters to her each week. Ruby is also survived by five loving grandchildren: Troy Francis and wife Katy, Rene' Francis Serpa and husband Scott, Kristy Buescher, Kelly Kuhns and husband Brent and John Francis and fiancée, Cathryn Blanton. Ruby was "farm-grandma" to her great-grandchildren, Brett, Justin, Cassidy, Tyler and Brody. Ruby was predeceased by her husband, John Francis and son, Daniel Francis, parents, Ora and Robert Hunt, brother, Bob Hunt, and sisters, Marjorie Johnson and Evelyn Snell. Ruby moved to California from Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl, coming West in a Model-T-Ford to live near Vineland/Weedpatch. Ruby attended Bakersfield High School where she met John Francis. They were married on April 20, 1936; the same year that Johnny purchased a small general store and gas station on the corner of Vineland and Sunset. They operated Johnny's Market and Ruby's Beauty Shop for forty years. Ruby also loved working with students as a teacher's aide at Sunset School. Although Ruby spent much of her time in the store and beauty shop, she was the ultimate homemaker, always finding time for family. They loved her delicious meals. Ruby had other interests, including quilting and stitchery, which will be keepsakes forever. She wrote wonderful journals and books for her grandchildren and children. She even wrote the story of her life. It is a wonderful biography of an amazing lady. Ruby's sense of humor, devotion to God and her church, devotion to her husband and family will always be remembered. She simply thought each day was a wonderful day no matter how difficult. Ruby was the irreplaceable center of our family who left behind a legacy of love. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ruby's life with a memorial service at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 31, 2009, at Arvin Memorial Cemetery on Vineland Road. Contributions may be made in memory of Ruby Francis to the Arvin Union Congregational Church or charity of your choice. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 30, from 2pm to 8pm at Arvin Funeral Home.
