Ruby Corena Carter was born February 5, 1935 in Gravette, Arkansas to Mabel (Baty) and Vernie Willhite. The family moved to Wasco when she was young and she attended Wasco schools. Graduating from Wasco Union High School with the Class of 1953, she went on to earn an Associate of Arts degree from Bakersfield College in 1955. Ruby had made Bakersfield her home for the last 24 years. Ruby loved to read, and enjoyed visiting with family and friends, and working in the yard. She was an avid collector of frogs in any form or function for many years, receiving many frog gifts from family and friends that expanded her extensive collection. Ruby is survived by her children, Diane Vizzard and husband Jim, Alan Henry and companion Janine Costa, Martha Green and husband Paul; step-children, Terry Carter, Calvin Carter and Greg Carter; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren, and her brother David Willhite and wife Betty. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 27 years, Jack Carter. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 3, 2014, at 10am at Wasco Memorial Park for Ruby (Willhite) Carter, age 78, who passed away December 28, 2013 in Bakersfield. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 2 from 2pm – 8pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco.
