Obituary

Rosie Padilla Vigil was born August 3, 1921, in Joliet, Illinois, to Jesus and Carmen (Sierra) Padilla. In 1932, the family moved to the Buttonwillow area, where she met and married Guillermo Vigil, who passed away in 1992. Together they raised three sons, William and Tony Vigil and Lupe Leal. She worked as foreman in different packing houses in Kern County for 55 years. She enjoyed dancing and cooking. Her specialty was chili verde tomales, enchiladas and her famous menudo, which she made a large pot every week. You could find her every year at the fair in her Mexican food booth. She was very well known locally, and rode in almost every parade. One year as Grand Marshall in the Mexican Independence Day parade. Another year she was "Woman of the Year" of the Mexican Woman's Club and rode in the Cinco De Mayo parade. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guillermo, brothers, Manuel and Tony Padilla and sister, Jessie Garcia. Survivors include sons, William and his wife Elsa, Tony, daughter-in-law, Margaret Vigil, son, Lupe Leal and his wife Maggie, 8 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, brother, Mike Padilla and many other loving family members. Visitation for Rosie will be Tuesday, September 6, 20ll, from 2 to 8 pm, with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 6:30pm, in the chapel of Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, September 7, 2011, 10am, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
