IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosemary June
Martin
June 27, 1931 – September 6, 2014
Rosemary June Martin was born June 27, 1931 in Santa Clara, California to Clara (Arial) and Joseph Freitas. When she was 19 years old she married Robert M. Martin and they moved to Wasco in 1967 where Robert farmed. Rosemary was active in her church and community, and was a member of the St. John's Woman's Society and PTA. Rosemary was employed as a laboratory supervisor for Dr. Gair for 20 years, retiring in 1992. During her retirement years she had the opportunity to welcome seven exchange students into her home through Youth for Understanding, becoming the area representative and making it possible for many families in the area to also become hosts. Rosemary traveled to Brazil and Uruguay to visit her extended families where she was warmly embraced. Rosemary moved into an assisted living facility in Bakersfield, but that didn't slow her down. She and her 90-year-old friend, Louise Alebord began a year-long project in 2013, making crafts to sell at a bazaar and raised over $800 for the homeless. Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband Robert who passed away in 1997 and by her parents. Rosemary is survived by her children, Robert Martin, Jr., Susan Martin, and Joe Martin and wife Michelle; brother, Melvin Freitas and wife Maryann; grandchildren, Chelsea Martin, Gregory Martin, Eden Ramirez, Zachary Martin and Kendall Martin; and her many extended families worldwide. Holy Rosary will be recited Thursday, September 11, at 7pm at Peters Funeral Home for Rosemary June Martin, age 83, of Bakersfield who passed away September 6, 2014 in Bakersfield. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, September 12, at 10am at St. John's Church. Fr. Raul Sanchez will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery.
