IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rose Marie
Vono Freeman
April 11, 1929 – November 5, 2009
Rose Marie Dieter was born April 11, 1929 to Michael Dieter and Theresa Wagner Dieter in Freeburg, Missouri. She moved to Wasco with her family when she was 5 years old. She attended St. John's Parochial School and Wasco Union High School, class of 1946. That same year, she met the love of her life, Michael Vono. They married in 1946 and had 3 children. Sadly, Mike died suddenly in 1956 leaving her a young widow with 3 small children. While still grieving, she found the strength and courage to raise her children and give them a rich life. Rose Marie worked for the Kern County Library in the Wasco, Beale and SW branches. Her children remember her life-long love of Hawaii. On Rose Marie's 50th birthday, they gave her a ticket for her first trip there. In 1981, she married Jeff Freeman and they traveled all over the world together. Jeff passed away in 1999. She is survived by her three children, Linda Orpe & husband Gary of Shafter, Susan Garrison & husband Jerry of Wasco, and Col. Charles T. Vono & wife Nita of Ogden, Utah; 7 grandchildren, Amanda Gutierrez, Paul Garrison, Bill Garrison, Denise Litchfield, Michael Vono, Andrea Stemp and Zachary Vono, and 9 great-grandchildren; sisters Joan Gasparatto & Barbara Mickey, brother Vernon Dieter, and dear friend and sister-in-law Irene Vono. Holy Rosary will be recited preceding the Celebration of the Mass of the Christian Burial on Monday, November 9, at 10am at St. John's Church in Wasco for Rose Marie Vono Freeman, age 80, of Wasco who passed away November 5, in Bakersfield. Fr. Denis Ssekannyo of St. Francis Church will officiate the services and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. Visitations will be held Saturday and Sunday from 5pm to 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
