Obituary

Rosalie (Rose) Ann Smith passed peacefully in her home on July 7th, 2014 at the age of 74 in Bakersfield, California surrounded by loved ones. Rosalie was born in Shafter, California on April 13th, 1940 to George and Mildred Guenther. One of 10 children, Rosalie spent her earliest years on a farm with her family in Shafter. She attended Shafter High School. Married to William Clay Jenkins in 1957 for 49 happy years, Rosalie cared for her beloved, staying by his side until his death in 2006. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; she adored her family and friends, and they adored her. A woman of faith, Rosalie served through the Church of Christ for many years, in addition to volunteering as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America. Those of us who knew Rosalie knew she was extremely generous and caring; not to mention, a fantastic cook. Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents George and Mildred; first husband, William Clay Jenkins; and 8 siblings. She is survived by her husband of 7 years, Joe Smith; sister, Eunice Carter of Bakersfield; daughter, Kellie Cross; grandchildren, Katie and husband Jarrett Fisher, Matthew Cross and Annie Cross; great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Madison Fisher; many nieces and nephews. Rosalie was a rock to her community and family. She will be missed dearly. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 12th, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Shafter Memorial Park, 18662 Santa Fe Way Shafter, California 93263.
