Rosalie Elizabeth Rios was born July 29, 1945 in Bakersfield, California one of six children born to Consuelo and Manuel Rios. Rosalie was a life-long resident of Shafter and graduated from Shafter High School with the Class of 1963. She went on to earn her Associate of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Development from Bakersfield College. Rosalie retired after 38 years working as a child advocate for the Headstart Program working mostly in Shafter, but also in Buttonwillow and McFarland. Rosalie loved being with family and friends. She was an excellent cook and her potato salad was always requested for family gatherings. Rosalie was a devoted friend and good listener who gave good advice and was generous with her time. Mark will be forever thankful for all the letters she wrote to him. Rosalie "La Rose" is survived by her son, Mark Allen Rios of Shafter; daughter, Sharon and husband Brian Matlock of Louisiana; sister, Geneva and husband Louis Pina of Bakersfield; grandchildren Brian "Bubs" Matlock, Jr. and fiancée Nicole and Jennifer LeeAnn Matlock; great granddaughter, Kaylyn Marie Matlock; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Rosales and granddaughter, Devan Marie Serda who both passed away in 1992; her parents; and 4 siblings, Arthur, Robert, Natalie Cortez and Mary Lou Gamboa. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, September 22 at 6:30 at Peters Funeral Home for Rosalie Elizabeth Rios, age 66, of Shafter who passed away September 17, 2011 in Bakersfield. Mass of the Christian Burial will be said Friday, September 23 at 10am at St. Therese's Church followed by interment at Shafter Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 22 from 2pm until 8pm at Peters Funeral Home.
