Obituary

Ronald Roy Harp was born August 24, 1949 in Bakersfield, to parents Eunice (Whicker) and Roy Harp. He attended local schools and graduated from Shafter High in 1967. During his career, Ron worked for Golden Bear Refinery and Kern High School District before starting his own landscaping business. He was a huge sports fan; he loved watching college football, and his favorite team was the USC Trojans. He also enjoyed going to Dodgers games, as well as, supporting the Generals here at home. Ron's hobbies include gardening and camping, and he also enjoyed staying healthy through bicycling and lifting weights. He was a member of the Jesus Saves church here in Shafter, and he was well known as a pillar of the church. A close friend to Pastors Steve and Lori Seymour, Ron served as a deacon at the church, and gave tirelessly of himself. He was a faithful servant of God, and donated his time and energy to show his love for others; he taught Sunday school and also helped with the Teen Challenge program. Ron loved to spend time with his family, and nothing brought him more joy than seeing his grandkids. He will be dearly missed. Ron is survived by his daughter, Sarah Marquez and grandchildren, Dylan and Kaitlyn Marquez, his nieces and nephews, Dena Lewis-Maddox, Kimberly Howard, Andrea Lewis-Brown, Darin Lewis and Billy Martin; his uncle Gene Wicker; aunt, Laural Harp; as well as, 12 great nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Eunice Harp; his grandparents, Guy and Esther Whicker; and his sisters, Linda Martin and Nicki Lewis. A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 from 2-8pm at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday April 25, 2012 beginning at 11am at the Jesus Saves Church, Pastor Steve Seymour will officiate and interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park.
