Rogelio Garza (Roy) was born January 14, 1947 in Laredo, Texas, one of 12 children born to Magdalena (Martinez) and Gregorio Garza. He worked as a laborer until he entered the US Army serving honorably from 1966 to 1968, during the Vietnam Era. Roy also served in the Army National Guard from 1983 to 2003. After his initial military discharge, Roy returned to Arvin and started his family with Angelina Ortiz. Roy and Angelina were married 14 years. They had three children Roy Jr., Joey, and Monica Garza. Roy also began his career and close friendships with G & W Manufacturing and continued working there until his passing. Roy's family, military career and his occupation as a welder were central in his life. After a long relationship, Roy was remarried on December 13, 2008 to Marcela Barrera. Roy helped raised Marcela's 3 children Pilar, Jennifer, and Adam Lopez. His love for his family and friends were undeniable. Rogelio loved the outdoors and went fishing and hunting whenever possible; he particularly enjoyed hunting in Utah with his close friends Freddy and Lelo. He also enjoyed taking trips to see his children and grandchildren in Sacramento and Texas. Roy is survived by his wife, Marcela; sons, Jose Garza & wife Amber of Sacramento, Adam Lopez and Pilar Lopez of Arvin; daughters, Monica Nieves & husband Jesus Manuel of Houston, Texas and Jennifer Lopez of Arvin; brothers, Renato and Gregorio; sisters, Magdalena, Sofia Angie, Tina, Esther, Lala and Rachel; and 12 grandchildren. Rogelio was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Abel; sister Regina; and son, Rogelio Garza, Jr. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 9 at 10am at Primera Iglesia Bautista for Rogelio Garza, age 67, of Arvin who passed away July 1, 2014. Pastor Marcial Marichalar, Sr. of Marbele Falls, Texas will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Bakersfield National Cemetery at 12:30pm. Visitation will be held at Arvin Funeral Home, Tuesday, July 8 from 4-8pm.
