Rodney Wayne Slater Sr., 64, of Bakersfield,CA, passed away on October 5, 2023, in Bakersfield. He was born on February 11, 1959 in Bakersfield to Robert and Elva Slater. Rodney also known as "Big Daddy" was a beloved husband, father, grandfather,brother and son.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vicki Slater; Children, Jasmine Slater, Rodney Slater Jr. and wife, Alyson Slater, Anna Rosales and Husband, Mateo Rosales; and Grandson Kason Wayne Slater. He is also survived by his mother Elva Slater; Sister Roxanne Slater and significant other Marty Dean. He is preceded in death by his father Robert Slater, Grandparents; William and Elsie Wagoner and Harry and Rebecca Slater.

Rodney had a long and successful career at Kern Electric Distributors, where he dedicated 47 years of his life. During his time at Kern Electric, he was also a successful small business owner for many years, where he met many amazing people through Riverlakes Batting Cages. You could often find Rod behind the desk selling tokens and candy every evening after his full time job.

As of September 19, 2023, Rodney had been clean and sober of his drug addiction for 35 years. He committed countless hours counseling and supporting other recovering addicts in their quest for recovery.

Rodney was the most dedicated father and husband to his family. Calling each of his children was his favorite daily task. When Rodney wasn't checking on the kids, he enjoyed helping his wife manage her baking business, finding new restaurants to share with friends and family and taking naps while watching Judge Judy.

A viewing for Rodney will be held Wednesday October 11, 2023 at 5:00 - 8:00 P.M. A funeral service to honor Rodney's life will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. The viewing and the service will take place at Peters Funeral Home in Shafter. Interment to follow the service at Shafter Memorial Park with a reception to follow. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate the life of this remarkable man.
