IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Ray
Whitbey
August 29, 1945 – March 24, 2025
Robert Ray Whitbey, known affectionately to many as Rob, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, due to natural causes in Shafter, California. He was 79 years old, having been born on August 29, 1945, in Manila, Arkansas to Ray Victor and Wilma Jewel Whitbey. He was preceded in death by his parents and all six of his siblings.
Rob is survived by Linda (Ward) Whitbey, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership. He was the proud father of six children: Gary, Larry, Robert M., Russell, Melanie, and Mark Whitbey, all of whom benefited from his deep wisdom and loving nature. Throughout his life, Rob embraced the role of a family man, nurturing and supporting his children in every possible way.
Professionally, Rob dedicated many years as a Cotton Research Technician for the United States Department of Agriculture and the California Planting Cotton Seed Distributors (CPCSD). His work was more than a job; it was a passion. His colleagues respected him for his meticulous nature, his leadership and his contributions to the field of agricultural research.
Rob's interests were a reflection of his curious and engaging spirit. He was an avid reader, always eager to learn and share knowledge with others. Golf was another of his great passions, where he found both relaxation and fellowship. Rob's commitment to his faith was evident in his active involvement in church activities, such as preaching and teaching classes.
Those who knew Rob would describe him as a loving husband, a wise father, and a man of unwavering faith. His guidance and counsel were sought by many, and he was always ready to offer a kind word, helpful insight and a witty comment. His legacy is one of love and service, touching the lives of countless individuals in his family, workplace, church, and community.
Rob's passing will undoubtedly leave a void in the hearts of those who knew him. Yet, we take comfort in knowing that his life was rich with experiences and love, and his influence will continue to be felt through the lives of his family and friends. As we say goodbye to Rob, we celebrate a life that exemplified the very best of humanity – a life full of love, wisdom, and faith.
In honoring Rob's memory, we reflect on the cherished moments we shared with him and the lessons he imparted. His enduring presence will forever remain in the stories told, the wisdom shared, and the love given freely. As we bid farewell to Robert Ray Whitbey, we hold tight to the warmth and light he brought into this world.
