Robert "Bob" Walter Steines, a 38-year resident of New Jersey and a 31-year resident of Joshua Tree, died Feb. 29, 2012, at the Continuing Care Center in Joshua Tree. His son and daughter-in-law were at his side when he lost his courageous battle with cancer. He was 69 years old. The son of Anne and Harold Steines, he was born Sept. 20, 1942, in Patterson, N.J. Bob served in the New Jersey Air National Guard and U.S. Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1967. A contractor by trade, Bob became a skilled master carpenter. He owned and operated a construction company in New Jersey, then worked as a contractor in California for 20 years. Prior to retirement, he worked as the golf course superintendant for the Twentynine Palms RV and Golf Resort. He was preceded in death by mother Anne Steines, father Harold Steines and sister Joyce Yoykon. He is survived by son Kirk and his wife, Heidi Steines, of Yucca Valley; son Gary Steines of Vernon, N.J.; sister Debra and husband Bob Rogers of Bradenton, Fla.; sister Beverly and husband Gino Capriotti of Golden Valley, Ariz.; former spouse Anna Marie Steines of River Edge, N.J.; and his loved dog, Puppy. There will be a remembrance and celebration of his life with family in Yucca Valley and Vermont. The family requests that donations be made to the Hi Desert Continuing Care Center.
