Obituary

Robert Joe Pickinpaugh went to be with Jesus on Sunday April 3, 2016. He passed away in his sleep at his son's home early in the morning. He battled COPD for 7 years and finally took his last breath. Robert was born on October 11, 1949 in Omaha, Nebraska to Robert Joseph and Dorothy Pickinpaugh. He was a big boy! His momma called him "Bobby Joe" but he was known most of his life as "Big Bob". Grandma said he was 6 foot when he was born, but in reality he didn't reach 6 foot until he was 12 years old. Dad overcame many hardships and obstacles in his life. From a hard childhood to the first love of his life, Paula Rittman, divorcing him, to the second love of his life Deborah Gonzales (his Little Lady) passing away in 1984. As a result of these plus many more struggles in his life, he turned to alcohol and self – medication for many years. Robert loved the Lord Jesus through all of his life, teaching his family love and forgiveness. He finally released all hurts and struggles to God. Our Dad was a picture of hope for the nonbeliever, and an example of strength for the believer. The joy of his life was his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his son, Robert Marcus Pickinpaugh and wife Michelle; his daughters, Shae Ann Leon, and Jessica Everett and husband Jay; grandkids, Megan Leon, Matthew Leon, Amy Pickinpaugh, Kellie Pickinpaugh, Robert Kyle Pickinpaugh, Marcus Pickinpaugh, Syndey Silva, Sergio Silva, and Samuel Silva; his sister, Linda Porter and husband Kenny; brothers, Todd Daley and wife Jenny, and Randy Pickinpaugh; and nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Debbie Daley; and his grandson Trent Solomon Stringer. Dad's biggest regret was being sick for so long and not able to spend time with his grandkids in their activities. Before he passed, his wish was to go riding again with his grandson Kyle; he wanted to "ride fast" all the way to Heaven. Dad it was our honor to know you, love you, and be loved by you! We will ride with you again one day! Hold on to Jesus, Dad and rest. Our dad had many friends throughout his lifetime. A special thanks to his AA Sponsor and dear friend Dave Parsons and wife Chris who were with him until the end! A graveside service is scheduled for Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11:00am at Shafter Memorial Park. There will be a lunch and memorial following the service, all who know him or family are welcome!
