Robert "Pete" Smith was born January 18, 1923 in Bokoshe, Oklahoma one of four children born to Esther (Bolden) and Isaac Joseph Smith. Pete served in the United States Army during World War II and after being discharged, he worked in the San Diego shipyards before moving to the Shafter/Wasco area. Pete married Lillie Armstrong February 7, 1967. Pete worked in agriculture all his life, many of those years for W.B. Camp, Voth Farms and Barling Bros. Pete loved to hunt and fish, but loved his work most of all, he would have worked 7 days a week if possible. When he did have free time he took his family to the coast, lakes or local parks for picnic lunches on the weekends. Pete is survived by his wife, Lillie of Shafter; children Robert Gene Smith of Oklahoma, Robert Dean Smith of Texas, Johnny Lee Smith of Texas, Gwenda Davidson of Oklahoma; step-children, Evelyn Heren of Arkansas, Vickie Wagner of Washington, Frances Breashears of Texas, Robert Douglas Copeland of Oklahoma, Jean Lowimore of Wasco, William Jessie Copeland of Michigan; sister, Ann Flannery of Poteau, Oklahoma; the grandchildren he raised, David Morris and Angie Ralls and many other loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. Pete was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda in 2009; parents, 1 sister, and 1 brother.
